Etymology: a branch of linguistics that studies the origins of words or expressions
Words that change by themselves - sometimes words stay the same but their meanings change.
Neck
Part of the body that joins the head and the upper body.
EXAMPLE: The man's neck was red with anger.
Neck used to describe a parcel of land as in the "neck of the woods."
Tell
To give someone information through speech
EXAMPLE: Melvin tells great stories to the children.
Tell used to mean "to count", as in "bank teller."
Deer
Four-legged brown animals that are generally found in forests.
EXAMPLE: The deer ran across the road and gave us a terrible fright.
The meaning of "deer" has become more specific over time. At one point, "deer" meant any animal, but today it refers only to a specific animal.
