Here is some vocabulary from this edition. Do you know what the words mean?

assimilate
become part of that group and are accepted by the people in that group

braille
a form of printing for blind people, with raised parts that they can read by touching the paper with their fingers

bricklayer
someone whose job is to build walls, buildings etc with bricks

buccaneer
someone who attacks ships at sea and steals from them

compost
a mixture of decayed plants, leaves etc used to improve the quality of soil

cordial
friendly but quite polite and formal

CPA
Certified Public Accountant

crucial
something that is crucial is extremely important, because everything else depends on it

deforestation
the cutting or burning down of all the trees in an area

glacier
a large mass of ice which moves slowly down a mountain valley

hassle
something that is annoying, because it causes problems or is difficult to do

hectic
very busy or full of activity

idiom
a group of words that has a special meaning that is different from the ordinary meaning of each separate word

impolite
not polite

insomnia
a condition where you are not able to sleep, or stay asleep

lingo
words or expressions used only by a particular group of people, or at a particular period of time

memorable
something that is very good, enjoyable, or unusual, and worth remembering

midwife
a specially trained medical professional whose job is to help women when they are having a baby

mitt
a type of glove that does not have separate parts for each finger

multicultural
involving or including people or ideas from many different countries, races, or religions

optometrist
someone who tests people’s eyes and orders glasses for them

outdated
no longer considered useful or effective, because something more modern exists

pediatrician
a doctor who deals with children and their illnesses

phobia
a strong unreasonable fear of something

Personal Support Worker
