There are many different winter time festivals in Ukraine. I will talk about one of them.

Christmas caroling is a popular tradition in Ukraine. Young people visit homes to sing songs that wish health and happiness to the family. For this, the carolers get treats like food, candy, or money. Caroling happens on Christmas Eve. Carolers go to neighbors, relatives, and friends, singing songs that bless each family member. It is usual for people to give carolers gifts or treats after their performance. Children go caroling first, then adults. Groups of boys and girls often go separately, with one person as the leader. After singing, the carolers wish the homeowners “Merry Christmas” and sometimes hint for a reward through a short poem.

Costumes and games are an important part of caroling, making it feel like a small performance.
