This summer I had an opportunity to spend some time in a small town in central Quebec. I can tell you more about Chibougamau. The town is located in Central Quebec with small number of population of around 7,000 people. It is located on Lake Gilman, so the free-time activities are fishing and boating and almost everyone has a boat.
The biggest industry in the past was mining, but now all the mines are closed. Chibougamau also has a large logging and sawmill industry because of many forests surrounding the area. I worked in reforestation this summer. The industry employs many people who come from all over Canada and the company provides accommodation and food. People are kind especially your colleagues from work and the salary is higher than in Ontario. The weather is excellent because it's cooler than in Ontario and the views of forests and lakes are beautiful.
I participated at the annual festival in Chibougamau in August. Native People came to the festival and everyone dances and drinks a lot. It was a lot of fun and many families and friends were there. Every Thursday people go in the bar to dance, or to go shopping at the only mall in town. My experience in this town was very good and I hope next summer season I will go back to Chibougamau again.
