UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX EASTER CELEBRATION IN TOWN OF BAR VINNYTSIA REGION STATE OF UKRAINE

Since my very childhood I remember Easter as one of the two main holidays for me. It was a specific time when I knew that my mom bought and made lots of sweets. I won’t hide that I`ve got a sweet tooth and it makes the holiday so much important. In my countryside, almost everyone is a farmer and so are my parents. Due to being very religious, they take a week off from work during Easter.

Furthermore, it takes a lot of preparation for the Holiday. Firstly, big cleaning in the house. You must clean spaces which you usually skip such as under the sofa or bed, behind the dresser or wardrobe and all rugs must be cleaned from the dust. Either on Thursday or Saturday, women bake special kind of bread that is called Pasca. Usually, it is sweet, and the top is covered by cream that dries after a few hours. Also, it’s very important that in the house is quiet and no one argues while the bread is baking. Eating Pasca before the holiday is prohibited.

The day before the Holiday, everyone prepares an Easter basket, which includes Pasca bread, painted chicken eggs, a candle, and any type of fruits. After that, at night, people go to the church so the priest will consecrate their baskets with holy water. Afterwards, you get home around 4 am and you have the main breakfast all together. Easter is a special time for everyone.
