Sundae is Korean blood sausage that usually consists of rice, glass noodles and pig’s blood.
It tastes very rich and savory for me and I love its chewiness and mochi-texture.
What was really interesting to me is that I didn’t know the fact that I love Sundae before moving to Canada. I believe this is because it’s hard to have it here, in Canada. Actually, Sundae is a street food so I could have it whenever I wanted in Korea. Besides, there are many kinds of food made of Sundae, such as Sundae stew and stir-fired Sundae and I often went to restaurants where they are served.
Although I can get Sundae from Korean supermarket in Canada, the taste and texture are really disappointing. Nevertheless, I ended up purchasing a few times since I was starving for it.
There are a few Korean restaurants that have Sundae stew on their menus but they only put four to five pieces of Sundae. I couldn’t get satisfied with it.
I also thought about making Sundae at home. However, the problem is that some ingredients, like pig’s intestine and blood are quite difficult to get here, in Canada. Moreover, I need to purchase tools to stuff filling. Unfortunately, these two factors made me give up making Sundae.
By the way, my husband and I were really surprised when we found the food that looked very similar to Sundae at the grocery market. When I got home, I just googled it and noticed many countries have their own style blood sausage. I’m pretty sure the one we saw at the grocery market was one of them.
