Parenthood

Becoming parent is one of the most exciting and rewarding experience in life. In fact, having a baby is the biggest change in a relationship. It increases an infinite love between couples. However being a first-time parent is a hard task, even for experienced. In addition, the responsibilities which come along having a baby are unlimited because parents are no longer just fulfilling their needs, the baby needs as well. I just realized, it is really challenging to care a newborn, especially for mothers. For example, being sleepless, feeding baby every two to three hours, changing diaper, calming, swaddling etc. are the most tiring and overwhelming task. However when you hug and see your baby, believe me you will forget everything right away. In the next three paragraphs, I want to discuss about parent’s responsibilities toward baby. Such as Love, health and learning.

Love is the first and the most important issue for babies. In fact, their first demands after birth is love. I think this is one of the reasons which doctors usually advice skin to skin contact after birth. Because, it improves psychological and emotional stability for both mother and baby. Furthermore, sharing love gives an opportunity for both parents and baby to know each other and build a trusty relationship. Hugging, talking, playing, reading book, helping baby with feeding, understanding baby’s needs and fulfilling them are the ways that you can share your love with your baby. The second issue which is worrying for parents is the baby’s health.

Many first-time and even experienced parents may accept that they are unsure about how to properly ensure the health and wellness of their newborn baby. According to the researches, the newborn baby’s immune system is very low; there is a high chance of becoming infected. For instance, cold, coughs, fevers, vomiting, constipation and diaper rash are the most common health problems with newborn babies. As a parent we should be very careful of our newborn because dealing with a sick baby is really hard. Since my baby born, I noticed that the baby health is quite related to the mother nutrition. So, mothers should be very careful of their nutrition. Also, the baby’s feed affects baby health. Therefore, breastfeeding is highly advised because the best and strong feed for a newborn baby is the breast milk.

According to medical research, babies start learning some skills before birth. Therefore, once they born, they already know how to soak breast to eat milk. However, skills like crawling, walking, taking, waiving bye-bye and others always bring a concern to the new parent. Because every parent wants their baby to grow and develop emotionally and physically as possible in order to reach their fully potential as adult. On the other hand, babies need a large vocabulary to start talking properly. Dr. Paul Roumeliotis the writer of book “Baby Comes Home” said, the first eighteen month of baby is very crucial and many brain vital functions Such as language, learning, emotional, vision, and etcetera are developed at this stage. Therefore, we should make sure that our baby is growing well emotionally and physically. As a parent we can help our baby to develop their brain by reading book, making eye contact and caressing, playing, giving time and love attention. Teaching babies is a big challenge for new parents.

To summarize, when the babies grow up, they should have their fully potential as an adult. We should always make sure; they have been developed well emotionally and physically. Thus, the environment where baby grow up should be safe and has conquered with love. Moreover, always remember that babies grow up too fast, don’t miss the opportunities to enjoy the moments, love them every chance you get, smile a lot, stare into their eyes, make memories and bond with your baby. At the same time, accept help if someone ask you. Don't try to be super-mom or super-dad. Relatives, friends, neighbors are often delighted to help, if you let them know what you need. Just having an hour to sleep, shower, or take a walk can take away your stress.
