Driving

toronto highway view from overpass

Driving around the world varies from country to country, depending on the laws and the infrastructure in place. However, today I am not going to talk about driving differences around the world, but rather make a comparison between driving in Cameroon and in Canada.

Driving in Cameroon, as in Canada, is governed by a highway code that all citizens must respect carefully in order to avoid any sanctions. As a result, drunk driving, excessive speed, uncontrolled overflow, just like in Canada, is not accepted in Cameroon.

The safety of passengers on board vehicles is a priority for the Canadian and Cameroonian code of conduct, however in Cameroon child car seats are not required, a measure that I believe the road legislators must put in place, because it is safer.

In terms of road infrastructure, Canada is very developed, with regional and provincial (or even international) axes. Road maintenance is done every year, while in Cameroon we have a lot of landlocked roads, which causes a lot of road accidents every year.

In conclusion, I will say that driving in Canada, while respecting its highway code and passenger safety, is much safer than in Cameroon, which still needs to make improvements on passenger safety and road maintenance.
