In Viet Nam, the biggest traditional we celebrate every year is the Lunar New Year and we call it a different name, Tet. That’s the best festival I like and I believe that it’s the most important and popular holiday in Vietnam.
It usually takes from the end of January to early February. A week before New Year, the streets are very crowded with many people go shopping to prepare for their house. They clean the house and decorate with lots of flowers such as Kumquat and Mai to make the house colorful.
There are many special foods that we must have on the New Year such as Banh Chung, Banh Tet, and some jams. During that day, people visit their relatives’ and neighbors’ house to wish them health, happiness and a Happy New Year. The children and the oldest often receive the red envelope from relatives in family. Inside the red envelope, there is some money that means lucky money as the blessing of luck, health and a wish for a new age.
With me, Lunar New Year is not simply a holiday, it also brings the warmth of family when all people can gather together in this atmosphere and enjoy a joyful time with their family’s members.
