In my opinion, the sugar industry is the new addiction that we have to be afraid of for our kids. I know that my statement will seem a little over the top for many readers. But stop a moment and think about it-how hard it is now to avoid and protect your kids from having too much sugar with all these companies that are using cartoon movie characters as their advertising material for their products.
And with their creative advertising that makes it so hard to resist buying it or bugging their parents to buy it.
As a parent of two kids, I remember how many rules were broken due to family gatherings or birthday parties just because other parents don’t care, or they are totally ignorant to the bad effects of the sugar on the health of their lovely baby.
Many of us as adults have a sweet tooth, but most of us nowadays finally recognize the consequences of consuming too much sugar. Over consumption of sugar rings the bell of diabetes and the failure of our immune system. Meanwhile, the poor kids have neither the knowledge nor the control over their sugar craving.
My friend who works as a pediatrician always tells me it’s sad how many kids are now suffering from diabetes and obesity at a young age due to the sugar industry and their greediness.
Finally, I strongly feel that the government should really implement stronger rules and fines on advertising sugar products for kids. In addition, forcing these companies to put clear information about the danger of sugar amounts in the products. The least they could do is make it easy for consumers to know how much a candy bar or whatever is exceeding the daily recommendation of sugar needed in our body.
I can’t understand how many studies have finally found their way to the public that clearly declare the danger of the sugar especially for cancer but for many other diseases as well.
And still these hazard flags should spur the world to take more serious action.
One of the things that i have learned from covid-19 pandemic is that taking care of our health and the quality of our food is the first and strongest weapon we have through the pandemic years.
I hope I succeed in passing this message to my kids and they can in turn pass to their kids in future, So maybe the new generation will have better rules and understanding for the new addiction that threatens their life.
