Employment

daycare worker with kids

After I moved to the northeast of Ontario and got my work permit in October 2016, I started looking for a job and sending my resume to different job postings. First, I need to mention that my husband helped me to check my resume according to Canadian standards, and that helped me a lot. At that time, I was only applying for full time jobs because, with this option, I could get medical cover and benefits. I waited for responses and everyday I remembered to review my email.

I considered myself as a lucky woman because in less than two months after I had started looking for a job, I got some responses for interviews. One of those came from a meat factory and the other from a daycare organization. So, I went to the first appointment, I did well at the interview and the reading test, and I got the offer to work with them. I was happy to start with this new experience because I had never worked in a meat factory before. Besides, I was impressed when I saw all the areas, the big refrigerated rooms, the cutting area and the sausage packing. However, even though I had told them that I would be working with them and start the following Monday, I had to call them to inform them that I had gotten another proposal in a daycare and that option was better for me and my family needs.

Finally, I decided to work at the daycare where they offered me a job plus a spot for my daughter at the same center. My experience there was so much fun, and I learned a lot about the care of children in their first years. In that job, I was available to develop and use many of my previous learning and experiences as a teacher. Moreover, I learned the regulations that this job has, the number of kids per educator, how to write and show the weekly activities that we did with the children, and complete the documentation and presentation to the parents.

When I worked with infants, I enjoyed nap time, when I would hold a baby to sleep, sing some nursery rhymes and feed them. Also, how to start potty training with the toddlers and preschool age kids. Honestly, if I had not taken the decision to leave then, I am very sure that I would have continued working with them. The reason is simple, I love hugs, kisses, singing and having fun with children, and I enjoy the simple things of life.
