Shopping

Al-Hamidiyah Souq - overhead view of market in Syria

Most people go shopping every day and find it an interesting activity? When l came to Canada, l kept enjoying my interest in shopping. However, l found some differences in shopping than l was used to in Syria. In this article, l will compare shopping in Syria and Canada.

Shopping in Canada has a variety of options of having many malls and markets. The reason for having different malls is related to diversity. For example, you can find Indian or famous chain-store products in the same place and groceries as well. The way of advertising is very organized by aisles. You can find expensive items with good quality and inexpensive items but you can't use them for more than a month except for taxes.

Shopping in Syria, especially in my hometown of Yabroud, is best done at local markets knowns as a ‘souk’ or marketplace. These are the places to find the best bargains and the best goods. Buying and selling are done in a friendly way as you can pay for the item even if you don't have enough money and there are no taxes. The stores may be cramped and under sourced but they are sufficient for the needs of the consumer. There is no specific time to open or close.

Shopping may differ from country to country but the joy of shopping in itself remains a pleasure. I prefer shopping in Canada more than in Yabroud because everything you would want is in one place such as in malls. And the most beautiful place that I love is Food Basics, so you can get to know the types of foods that may be strange to you, but are delicious. Shopping in Canada helps you to have knowledge of the rest of the countries and what they are famous for. Now can you tell me about shopping in your country?
