cat on fence

I would like to tell you about my amazing cat Venya. This happened 30 years ago, when I lived in Kazakhstan, but I still remember her.

I promised my son that I would take home a small kitten for him, but everything somehow didn’t work out. My son was 6 years old at that time, and we decided to give him a present. I was working in a bank, and my colleague told me that her cat had given birth to kittens. I told her that my son was asking for a kitten, and I had promised to make this wish come true as soon as possible. We agreed that as soon as the kittens grew up, she would give me a boy kitten, because I had decided that I only wanted a boy.

This day finally arrived. My colleague brought a tiny kitten to work and said "It’s a boy." The kitten was very playful and curious. and while he was with me at work, all my colleagues played with him. That day my son was looking forward to seeing me at home because he knew that I would return from work with the kitten. That night my son was overjoyed.

The kitten very quickly got used to our home and took a leading place in our family. My son took care of him completely because the kitten was his dream. We gave the kitten the name Benjamin or Venya for shot. While Venya was growing up my hands were all scratched from his claws. He always attacked me and was very playful. All my curtains were ruined by him: he climbed them so fast that we didn’t have time to catch him.

When our Venya grew up, we found out that she was actually a girl instead of a boy! It was a big surprise for us. Venya became a very large beautiful cat, like a wild lynx, with large tassels on her ears. Our Venya loved us very much. She often went hunting for little animals, like birds or mice, and then brought them to us as presents. Venya would catch one and put it and put it at my feet, and shen she would look at me as if to say, "You see? I also care about you."

She was a very brave cat. She fought and defended her territory, especially her tree from which she climbed down from our window and then climbed up to return home. We lived in an apartment on the second floor, so she needed her special way of coming and going. One day I witnessed how my good and very kind Venya had a fight with another cat. I heard a loud noise outside the window, and when I looked out, I saw my Venya was fighting with another cat which had climbed up on her tree. The poor cat was looking unhappy. Venya pushed it to the very edge of a branch and it was about to fall. I immediately shouted to her to stop. When she saw me, she immediately turned from a wild cat into a sweet and gentle house cat. The other poor cat ran away very quickly.

I can tell you a lot about her because we loved her very much. I’ll never forget how she woke me up in the morning to feed her. She would come into the bedroom early in the morning, crawl under the covers and gently bite my nose until I got up. I can’t forgive myself because when she became a mother, we gave her first kitten to my mother-in-law. She lived two blocks away from us. My mistake was that one day I took Venya with me, and I showed her where her baby lived now. After that, she visited her baby every day. She would go to the apartment where my mother-in-law lived, reach up for the door handle and pull it. My mother-in-law thought that someone had come in, and she shouted, "Come in! The door is open," but no one came in. After that, she went to open the door, and then she saw Venya. She was sitting in front of the door and looking up at my mother-in-law. She had come to visit her kitten.

One day, Venya didn’t back home anymore. We were looking her everywhere. After one week, one lady said that she had seen a similar cat die under the wheels of a car. We never found her. Our hearts were broken. Many years have passed away, but we still remember our Venya. She was a very unusual cat. I wanted to tell you about her because our pet became a member of our family and always lives on in our hearts.
