There are lot of festivals which are being celebrated in India such as Diwali, Holi, Eid, Dussehra and Janamashtmi. My favorite festival is Holi. Holi celebrates the arrival of spring, the end of winter, the blossoming of love, and for many it’s a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships. The festival also celebrates the beginning of a good spring harvest season.
Holi is also celebrated as win over evil. It says that in ancient times there was a prince called Prahlada. He was devoted to lord Vishnu. His father Hirnyakashipu was a cruel man. He considered himself invincible and wanted his son to worship him instead of Lord Vishnu.
Despite several warnings from his father Prahlada continued to worship lord Vishnu. King Hirnyakashipu made several attempts to kill his son but he always failed. The king had been granted a boon that he could not be killed off anything born from living womb, neither be killed by a man nor an animal, neither during the day nor at night, neither indoors, neither on land nor in the air nor in the water and no of man-made weapon.
One day when Hiranyakashipu tried to kill his son then the Narsimha, a prominent avatar of God Vishnu took the form of part a man, part lion to kill the demon King by fulfilling all the proper requirements by which the otherwise nearly invincible Hiranyakashipu could be killed. After the death of his father Prahlada took his kingdom and ruled peacefully
Holi is a festival of colors. People celebrate this festival by throwing colors on each other. It’s a great fun to play with colors. Kids play with their water guns. Also some people make their traditional sweets at home like ‘Gujia’ and have get together with their immediate family members and friends. I personally love this festival.
