Thunder Bay, Ontario, is situated at the top of Lake Superior, one of the Great Lakes. A famous statue is on the outskirts of the city, commemorating Terry Fox, a Canadian icon who attempted to run across the country raising money for cancer research in 1981. It is the largest city in northwestern Ontario, with a population of about 107,909. I believe, Thunder Bay is an amazing place to immigrate. First, it is a desirable city in which to work due to above-average wages and its superior quality of life. For example, food, utilities, and transportation, are cost less than urban centers nearby. Second, it has an outstanding reputation for education. For example, Lakehead University, Confederation College, and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Third, it is a great place to do business. For example, my parents opened the first Arabic restaurant. Also, it is a culturally sophisticated city and a great place to get active. For example, they have museums, a Francophone center, an Italian cultural center, and the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. Also, there is something to do year-round whatever the weather. For example, in the spring, there are many activities from country ski races to garden shows. In the summer, we have festivals, fresh air, and farmers selling fresh produce. In the fall and winter, we have skiing, hockey, and curling. This is the city that has the most daylight hours, the sunniest city in Canada with nearly 2200 hours of sunlight each year. Additionally, Thunder Bay is home to the world’s 2nd largest curling rock outside the Fort William Gardens. Finally, warm to hot summers, cold winters, and temperate fall and spring seasons generally allow a year-round outdoor lifestyle. So, if you enjoy the outdoors Thunder Bay is a wonderful place for you to live.
