Luna New Year is a holiday in Vietnam. Every person comes back to their family. Luna New Year can be known as a gathering holiday. People often decorate their houses with flowers like peach blossoms or kumquat trees during the Lunar New Year. Traditional foods also will be cooked nem ran, and banh chung.

Banh Chung has a long time of history. Banh Chung has a square shape, it presents for the Earth. Our ancestors wish we always have a wealthy and prosperous life. Traditionally, Vietnamese people make Banh Chung. Each ingredient in Banh Chung has a significant meaning. Fatty pork is a symbol for a prosperous and fulfilling life Mung Bean represents for purity and simplicity glutinous rice: conveys the Vietnam’s agriculture is the rice plant and banana leaf string is the symbol for safety.

We walk through the recipe to prepare ingredients. Rinse and soak glutinous rice through the night. Mung beans take 4 hours to soak, marinate pork with salt, black pepper, and shallot. Then wash the banana leaves then blanch into boil water, it makes banana leaves softer.
