Employment

co-op student typing on the keyboard

I am currently working as a co-op student in the International Admission Department of my company. This is my first job in Canada. I started my role on May 1st,2024. Over the past month, I was taking time getting familiar with the rules of admission, courses, deadlines etc. from my colleagues. They are super supportive and patient with every single question of mine. As I am getting to know more about the rules of admission, our manager has started to let me deal with inquiries from students. For example, answering questions about the requirements for re-admission, program changes, payment deadlines, etc. During this time, I have also taken the opportunity to practice my oral and listening English skills by communicating with walk-in students.

My other day-to-day job is to collect and follow up with necessary documents from applicants by email and complete data entry to ensure database integrity and reliability. There are different requirements depending on which countries the students are entering from. It took me a few days to figure out the guidelines. It is necessary to double-check the rules before submitting any requests to the admissions officer to avoid mistakes. The admissions officers will assess and enroll prospective students if all requirements are met.

I am really enjoying my placement and am happy with the improvement of my English skills!
