My name is Rachel, I was born in Beijing. My parents divorced when I was 5. We’re still very close with each other. So my family always fulfills my need for love.

I graduated from Beijing Forestry University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. The China Construction Bank was my first job. I was so proud to be the youngest manager since I had only worked less than 1 year there. Seven years later, I was promoted to be the general manager and had approximately 3500 young staff. I developed the “Growth Management Program” for all the Beijing’s sub-branches which helps young staff with skill development and career planning.

My husband was my classmate in middle school, and we also fell in love with each other then. That means our love story is 25 years old. We have a son, who is 11 years old, named Jack. He’s our only child. He’s kind, cool and smart and he’s the main reason why we decided to change our life. In China, especially Beijing, studying is everything to a student. Lots of homework, heavy stress made most of the children lose their fun time. We want to give our son a happy childhood. So we moved to Canada when Jack was 7 years old.

In 2019, we bought a business in Nanaimo. It is a floating pub. We made new friends here, and also faced new challenges as well. It was not an easy beginning due to Covid, but fortunately, we got through that hard time. Because we’re never losing hope and happy to beat the challenges.

My son is going to secondary school, and we’re planning our new life now. First of all, we are studying English. I might also try to apply to a graduate program like an MBA and find a new job in a bank here . Since I won a challenge to run a business, I would like to step on to the next challenge. I like all the challenges in my life, and meeting them makes me stronger, wiser and confident.
