Celebration

Eritrea 3D wrinkled flag illustration. Usable for background and texture

Eritrea’s Independence Day is celebrated every year on May 24th. It marks the day Eritrea became free from Ethiopia in 1991. People remember the long 30-year war and the brave fighters who helped win its freedom. On this day, the streets are full of flags, music, and dancing. Families gather to celebrate and enjoy traditional food. Schools and communities hold special events and parades. Everyone feels proud to be Eritrean. It is a time to think about the past and hope for a better future. Children learn about the country’s history and its heroes. Many people wear traditional clothes to show their culture. Eritreans around the world also join in the celebration. Our community in St. John’s celebrated it together, too. Eritrea's Independence Day is a proud and happy time for the whole country and those of us who live around the world.
