I was born in 1963. In my childhood, there were no cellphones, no social networks and no Google. We played on the street, we got dirty, we talked face to face. There were no digital distractions. There was real life.
To have a colour TV was a luxury. I remember the first time I saw one, it was amazing, like the world changed in one second. To write a letter was something normal. We waited weeks for an answer, and that was ok. I also remember taking my vinyl discs under my arm to go listen to them with my friends, share music and talk all afternoon. If we wanted to talk to someone, we just went and looked for them. Today, with one click, you can talk with someone on the other side of the world… but sometimes, you don't talk with the person next to you.
When personal computers and the Internet arrived, everything changed. Everything became faster, easier, and more connected. And now, with Artificial Intelligence, you do not even need to think too much: you write one idea and a machine like this makes it a plan, a text or a code. Is amazing, but also a bit scary.
But maybe we lost something too. Maybe we lost our patience, now we want everything fast. Maybe we lost silence, now there is always noise, notifications, and screens. Maybe we lost depth, because many things feel quick, simple, and not so meaningful anymore.
Is not about hating the technology. I use it every day. But I don't forget where I come from. And sometimes, I miss that life without screens, when the world was slower… but also more human.
