Settlement

My name is Larisa. I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan.

When our case got approved for Canada, it was one of the best moments of our lives. After a month, we received our visas and another month later, our flight was confirmed. Those days were the best days in my life. I was very excited for everything. When we received our visas, the very next day I resigned from my job, and it was the happiest feeling in my life. So, we started shopping for the things we needed. And the day that all of us were waiting for had finally arrived. I was very nervous and afraid, but at the same time I was happy as well.

The first morning in Canada was very different - everything felt quite calm. Sometimes it was like a dream for me, but no, it was not a dream, it was real.

After a month, I got a job in Canada. I was very happy. The first day at my workplace was good, but also it was a tough day, too. I learned everything with time at my workplace, and after three months they hired me permanently. Life in Canada is good but tough. The hardest part is waking up at 4 AM Five days a week. It is not easy. But the good thing is that we have lots of opportunities here. And I am grateful for everything that I have learned here. Even life here can be tough, but I haven't forgotten my dreams. I want to continue my education in Canada and make a better future for myself. I want to be someone my family can be proud of. I am confident that I will make it happen. I know the journey is not easy, but I believe in hard work and faith.

From a young age, I have always loved reading and writing. School was something I enjoyed and even on Fridays which were the weekend in my country. I was excited to learn more. My family means everything to me, and they have always been there to support me. I am so grateful for having them by my side.

The love I have for my country will never fade away. My heart will always be with my homeland. Even though I live far away from my country, I always carry my memories of growing up there with me.

I love the colour black. It feels timeless to me. I also try to stay positive and enjoy life's simple pleasures, like shopping and sleeping, which relax and recharge me. Remember to stay tied to your roots and always stay true to yourself.
