My name is Melissa. I’m 28 years old. I come from a small town in Ecuador. In my country, many people follow the Catholic beliefs and traditions, and my father was one of them.
When I was young my life was very simple, no worries, just studying, keeping my parents happy and having a lot of fun with friends.
I met my husband when I was fifteen years old. It was love from first sight. I still remember my nineteenth birthday; it was so much fun. A month later, I started to get sick. My mother was my safe place and haven. She reassured me that nothing to worry about. By the third month, I started to become more emotional with a big appetite. My mother took me to the doctor to get the confirmed news about my pregnancy. My parents were so disappointed because I didn’t preserve the family’s dignity. The decision was to give birth in the States away from my town.
My boyfriend gave me hope and reassurance that together, we will build a beautiful family in Canada. Two years later, we got married and he took me away from my cold house and people. Canada was and still our bliss. We are both working and raising our beautiful Sophie. My daughter changed my life around, and I’m so happy to be living with an amazing, caring, and loving community in Mississauga.
Let’s not be afraid of changes and new beginnings. Everything turned pink in my life, and I’m blessed to have a beautiful family like mine.
