In my country, Eritrea, a library was only available in school in the city where I grew up.
We used to go to the library once per week to find books or materials for subjects like science, English, history, biology, chemistry and so on. We would spend one to two hours looking for the books and doing our assignments in the library. This service was free and paid by the government.
In our school library, we had different books to read available for students, and also, they taught us how to use the computer. We had a teacher who used to teach us about computers in the library.
In my opinion, libraries are still a valuable resource. I have friends who are newcomers here, and while they are on the waitlist for English and other courses, they can go to the public library and find resources to learn by themselves while waiting to start their registered courses.
