Winter 2015

Homeland

My name is S.C. I come from a city in southern China. I came to Canada to study in 2005 and later met my wife and started a new family.

When I first arrived in Canada in May, the climate was warm and dry. At that time, the climate in my hometown was hot and humid, and I felt very comfortable. The houses in Canada are very beautiful, mainly detached, spacious and with large land areas. Because China has a dense population, the houses there were relatively small at that time. The living conditions in Canada were still enviable. I remember once going to the hospital for a check-up. In here, medical care is completely free, and the hospital facilities are complete, but the waiting time is too long. In China, mainly due to the large population, hospitals are crowded, and it's not easy to see a doctor.

Nowadays, many infrastructure facilities in China are quite complete, and the cities are built very beautifully. It's quite frustrating to see that Canada hasn't made much progress in the past 20 years. I love Canada because I live and work here and have my beloved family here. I also love China because it's where I was born and my first hometown.
