Homeland

The Habesha people inhabit the Horn of Africa, primarily in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Their origins trace back to the southwestern region of Asia, specifically the Arabian Peninsula. They are classified as a semitic. The Habesha community possesses its own unique Geez alphabet, numbers and calendars. The alphabet consists of over 230 basic different?characters and a calendar begins on September first. It started eight years before the Gregorian calendar (G.C). However, the Geez language is predominantly used in the Orthodox Church and regarded as sacred. Notably academic institutions, such as the University of Hamburg in Germany have conducted extensive research on this subject. The traditional Habesha cuisine features injera accompanied by a variety of dishes and Habesha clothing is made by hand. I take pride in being part of this vibrant community?with its rich cultural heritage. I am Habesha.
