English

Word ENGLISH, books, glasses and felt tip pens on white wooden table

I have been living in Canada for three years. When I first moved here, I couldn’t understand people’s conversations. This made me feel worthless and unsuccessful. After for a while, a friend told me about ESL and LINC courses. I joined a language program, and during that time, I started to understand what people said and make simple sentences. At least, I began to feel more confident.

After six months, I learned about some English programs at colleges. I joined the EAP program at George Brown College. At the same time, I also joined some online speaking clubs. These helped me improve my vocabulary and become more fluent in English. I am thankful to all of my instructors.

After I graduated from George Brown College, I started thinking about my new goals. One day, I visited my family doctor and then went to the pharmacy. I noticed that some Turkish people there were having difficulty with English. I offered to work as a volunteer, and the store manager was very happy with my offer. He allowed me to volunteer at the pharmacy.

After one month, I started working as a paid employee. Now, I am really happy to be helpful to my community. I also feel very comfortable working here because I used to work in a pharmacy in my hometown.
