"Driving is a privilege, not a right." I read that sentence when I was looking for information about driving license. Let me explain to you my story.
I'm a newcomer in Canada, and I chose to live in Ontario. I came here with my driving license from my country. It was difficult for me to drive without doing the G1 (it's the theoretical exam and the first step of the driving license in Ontario. After the G1, we have 12 months to drive while being accompanied by a person who has a full G. The G2 comes after the G1. It's the practical exam). With my driving license from Cameroon, I was allowed to do the G2 directly after my G1. The problem is that I traveled without my driving license from my country. Now, I'm waiting for my wife to come with it before I start the process of the Ontario driving license.
W
hen I arrived in Canada, I started looking for jobs online. For almost all job descriptions, I was reading the same sentence: "A driving license is necessary for this job." Others were saying that "a car is important for this job."
The question here is: "Why am I not doing my G1 when I noticed the importance of a driving license?" I know that you were asking yourself the same question. Indeed, I forgot to travel with my driving license from my country to Canada. It's funny, I know—I realized my mistake when it was too late for me. I asked my wife to send it to me, but the mail with my driving license never arrived. I started a new procedure to have a new one from my country so that my wife would travel with it to come and join me.
