Driving is an important skill, especially in Canada because you have to be on time for work and you usually can't find a job close to home and you have to drive. Everyone has to know how to drive and it's a big part of your life.
However, in my country, Afghanistan, driving is definitely different. It’s more stressful because people don’t always follow the rules. They don’t follow the sign or speed limit and other rules. Also, the cars aren’t the same as here. It’s hard to drive in my country because there are many people on the road.
When I came to Canada, I realized driving here is different from my country in many ways. You have to follow all the rules. You have to know all the signs and also you have to drive at your speed limit. I have to know how to drive because I didn’t know anything about driving. The biggest challenge for me was learning how to drive in the winter. Snow and ice made the roads slippery, and I had to drive slowly and carefully. And I had taken driving lessons.
I can never forget my first time I was driving on the highways like Highway 404 and Highway 401. I had just received my driver’s license and had no experience driving on these highways. That day, I was alone and had no choice but to drive on that route. It was very difficult and stressful. I spent about three to four hours on the highway, and because of the stress, I got a terrible headache that lasted for two days. But after that day, the stress slowly disappeared, and now I can drive on these highways very easily and comfortably.
