I incidentally saw a flyer at my daughter’s school when I picked her up, and she convinced me to join a community clean-up event with her. At that moment, I thought it was a lovely activity for us to do together and a great way to teach her about caring for the environment. The event took place in St. Catharines, and our goal was to clean up parks, the river banks, and the beach shore. We helped organize volunteers, picked up litter, and made sure all waste was properly collected and disposed of. It was also wonderful to see so many people from the community join in after hearing about the event through flyers and social media. The event was also family-friendly and full of positive community spirit. My daughter was able to make new friends, and so was I. We talked about parenting, our kids, and shared many interesting stories. I never realized that my daughter could be this happy while making new friends and helping the environment at the same time. It was also a great way to connect with our local community. At the end of the day, I felt proud of myself and my daughter, not only because we helped the environment, but also because it was a meaningful way for me to be with my daughter and practice a positive environmental habit with her, and stay active as a family. The community won't be successful if we don't stand together, and events like these truly make a difference in helping people feel connected and it bring us together.
