Community

Friends Making Hands as Peace Sign Together

Community events are really important and appreciated by me and my neighborhood. So, every year by the end of May, the high school where I taught for 12 years organized a big community event. I was part of the organizing committee for 10 years and my role was to guide the students who were showcasing their talents as singers, dancers, or instrumentalists. At this time of the year, the school was buzzing with preparations. Some were finishing their music partitions to present, others were on the phone to finalize the last details before the big day.

To promote the event, we made some flyers, sent email to everybody, called parents and the local authorities of the city. Students were willing to help with sharing flyers, setting everything up and most importantly being part of the festivities. We also raised funds to award all participants in each category and people volunteered without complaining.

What I loved the most with this kind of event is the community spirit. With everyone giving a hand and with parents, municipal's authorities being present, this show was crucial to help gather participants and to celebrate our community. This makes a huge difference in the students' minds and for sure they will remember it for the rest of their lives.

To summarize, it's very important to be a volunteer in your neighbourhood or your workplace. It fosters a sense of community and it makes people around you happy.
