The event that I want to talk about is the acknowledgment of Indigenous land in Sudbury, which took place at my university. As a student at the university and a member of the Association of Students, I participated in this event as a volunteer. This event was organized by the administration, and it was in March 2025.

My role consisted of welcoming and orienting people who were coming to attend the event. There were between one and two hundred guests at this event even though it was a working day and we didn’t take a break from courses.

At the beginning, the President and some personalities of the university delivered their speech and we watched a short movie based on the history of the university and their relationship with the Indigenous. Their leader delivered his speech. I had never attended this kind of event and I learnt a lot about the history of the Greater Sudbury Area.

After this, we attended a dance party where indigenous showed their culture. They wore clothes that I was familiar with. Also, they wore hats that contained some feathers, and it was nice to see this.

At the end, we shared some cookies, cakes, coffee, and so on. The festival ended at around 11 am.
