Celebration

Pakistani wedding, Culture, traditions

In my country people don’t like and allow others to celebrate Valentine’s Day due to religious factors in front of them.

When it comes to marriages, most marriages are arranged marriages, love marriages are not common. When boys and girls approach marriage age their parents start finding a bride or groom for them. Hopefully, they find a good bride/groom for their children. After that they arrange an engagement ceremony. On the engagement day bride and groom exchange the rings and see each other for the first time. After some months they decide on the other wedding ceremonies like Mehndi, the wedding day and the reception day. In a nutshell, love marriages are very rare. In the Mehndi ceremony the girl and family friends sing songs for the bride or groom for their sides. They eat delicious Pakistani food. And the bride put henna on her hands. On the wedding day the groom relatives come to take the bride, with his family and friends with a total of almost 200 people. At the end of ceremony bride leaves her parent house and start living with her groom. On the reception day arranged by the groom side, everyone eats delicious Pakistani food and gives wishes to the bride and the groom. Each ceremony is attended by 200 to 500 people. It is the most important day in life for most people.
