Celebration

Wedding ceremony at Ulun Danu Bratan temple in Bali. Decorated with wood, flowers and vintage lamps

Last year I was invited to a Korean wedding. It was a colorful traditional celebration where the newlyweds and their parents were dressed in traditional attire. Amazing! I've never seen anything like this before! But during the ceremony, I realized that just like us, Ukrainians, parents give their blessing to the birth of a new family, wish their children prosperity, love, wisdom and mutual understanding. Also just like us, in the wedding ritual they change their outfits, use candles and predict the number of children the future young family will have. The celebration was colorful, fun and very touching!

However, the Balinese weddings are usually based on creating harmony, peace and fulfillment. They are meant to create balance between the maternal and spiritual worlds. The ceremony that is practiced is a chance for a groom and bride to testify before the god, creatures of the underworld and their community. The ceremony itself includes gift giving and a procession through the streets of the village, where the married couple will soon live in. They also go through a purification ceremony to clean their hearts and souls from negative energy.
