It is summer in Canada. This means that it is time to take off the heavy clothes, get out the t-shirts, shorts and sandals, enjoy the outdoors, and take a look at nature coming to life again, such as the trees, grass and the singing of the birds.

Don’t forget it’s also a great time to practise summer sports! My favourite summer activities are cycling, volleyball and, above all else, pickleball. I usually play pickleball with friends on Fridays or Saturdays. It is a good way to get the body moving and burn a few calories but, the main reason I love playing, is so I can meet up with friends and have a bit of friendly competition. Pickleball uses the same type of court as tennis, but with different lines, which are longer in length than tennis, but shorter in width. The rackets are different too. They aren’t made with net and don’t have any holes. They are made of wood, plastic or carbon. Playing pickleball is the same concept as playing tennis except the points are counted in a different way. For me, this is the perfect summer sport and you do not need to be a professional. Anyone can play it easily.

Everyone must have their own equipment, such as racket pads, balls, comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes, and be prepared to play at least 2 hours. We switch players each game and the winner stays on the court until being defeated. Therefore, the best player will naturally play more. I usually stay on the court for a while. Maybe I’m a good player or maybe my friends just don’t play that well!
