The Democratic Republic of Congo was a Belgium colony when thousands of citizens marched peacefully against colonialism and demanded independence. It was January 4, 1959 when Belgian soldiers shot with live fire and killed many people in manifestation. Every year, January 4, Congo celebrates Martyrs Day in remembrance of those killed in the fight for the independence of our country.
Today, every January 4, the population from different levels, ordinary citizens, security organs members, politicians, foreigners living in Congo and international organizations attend the celebration of Martyr Day at Martyr Stadium in Capital City. The event starts with Military and Police parade and ends with the speech of the President of the Republic.
