“When the Thai is born, the way is born"

Thai Pongal is celebrated on the first day of the Thai month in the Tamil calendar but in the English calendar is January 15. The farmers celebrate this festival thanks to Lord Surya. So this festival is also called Uzlavar Thirunal.

On Thai Pongal, People wake up early in the morning, take a bath, wear a new dress, make a posture with turmeric, and make a kolam, hanging thoaranam. It makes with coconut leaves and tie sugarcane on both sides. After, they cook Pongal in a new pot.

The festival's most significant practice is the preparation of the traditional "Pongal" dish. It utilizes freshly harvested rice and is prepared by boiling it in milk and raw cane sugar. Sun rises during the Pongal boil and milk spill from the Pongal’s pot. That time we pray to god and tell Pongalo Pongal.

Relatives and friends are invited for Pongal festival. We share and eat our sweets. On this festival we joyful with our family, relatives and friends.

The festival of Pongal is celebrated for four days: Poki Pongal, Thai Pongal, Matup Pongal, and Kanum Pongal.

All people tell loudly with pray their hand over "Pongalo Pongal".
