Although winter is really cold and snowy in Canada, there are lots of outdoor activities to enjoy the longest season. One of these activities is driving the snowmobile.
Since I arrived in Canada I saw a lot of these machines on different truck's beds or behind trailers. Once I saw one on a trailer, and it made me want to buy one. After two years of thinking, I decided to buy a used one, just to try with my wife what will be the sensations and the feeling on this kind of recreational vehicle. I finally found one after three months of research. My first impression when I saw it was, "it is in a very good condition". I was very excited when I bought it and I bought a trailer just to bring the snowmobile on the trails. After a first inspection by a dealership, it was not in the great shape I expected, and the previous owner neglected the sled and a lot of parts were to be replaced .After a quote by the dealership, the price was unrealistic and I started to call some of my friends and acquaintances to check who will know somebody cheaper, but none of them knew someone. So I remembered that one of my colleagues is mechanic at my job and I asked him if he had some knowledge of this motorsport and if he wanted to join me to give me the guidelines and the help to rebuild it, and he accepted. So, a long project begun.
After my research to find the parts on the Internet, I was very surprised how expensive it was and how it difficult it was to get them. I ordered the parts to be replaced on different websites and we finally finished rebuilding the skidoo last Sunday. We are both employed so we could only do the job on the weekends or after work. It was a challenge to manage a schedule without impacting our personal life but we finally did it. It has to be noted also that all the furniture and the gears cost a lot. But this is normal due to the technical material for the cold weather and for the safety of the driver and the passenger.
In conclusion, with a little bit of mechanical knowledge we can have some fun with a safe machine and save a lot of money.
