My fiancé was my first love, and I know we were just kids when we met at age 12, but from the first time that I saw him, I knew it was love at first sight.

We broke up because he went to US with his mom, but we remained friends and kept in touch on social media. He came to El Salvador a couple of times and we hung out. One day, a decision to climb a volcano on his birthday put the spark back in our relationship. After that, my family moved to Canada, and in October 2021, he came to visit me and meet my family. When he met my dad, I was very surprised because my dad liked him immediately.

In December he came again for holidays, so we had a good time with all my family. One day when I got back from work my stepmom asked me: “Do you love him? How do you feel about him? Do you want to marry him?” Honestly, I was very confused, but I told her how much I love him and how safe he makes me feel. Then, he got up and got down on one knee to propose to me. I am not going to lie; I was so excited that I forgot I was wearing my ugly Christmas sweater and my friend was video recording everything. I said ‘Yes’ because he is the love of my life and he is everything I was looking for in my future husband. My “Ugly” sweater will always remind us of this special moment. True love exists and thank God I got it!
