Self-Improvement

believe in yourself on chalkboard

Believing in yourself can make the impossible possible.

I always love to learn and improve on what I am lacking, such as English skills, nail art, and other things that are related to my work or even little things at home.

I have been in Canada for more than 15 years. When I first came to Canada, I didn't speak much English and all I knew was “yes” and “no”. It was very difficult to communicate or to do anything else. Not too long after that, I got a job in a book factory. I was surrounded by books, so I decided to self-teach myself English before I enrolled in a school. I asked my colleagues to guide me on how to pronounce some words and I searched for the meanings of all the words that I’ve learned with a dictionary. I watched a lot of kids' songs, kids' movies and a lot of news. I would read the captions and write them down, then look them up on my dictionary every day. Three months later, I could speak English fluently so that people could understand me.

A few years after that, I’ve switched my career to be a nail technician and I did the same. I still learned English as wherever I went. But this time I learned more things, such as nail art, manicure, pedicure, artificial nails, lashes and waxing. As I got in the field, I felt like I needed to learn more and more to improve myself, so I took more lessons and learned a variety of techniques from a lot of amazing nail artists around the world. I entered in quite a few competitions as I worked and learned at the same time. In 7 years, I achieved four times the first place, five times the second place and one time the third place.

Until this day, I am still learning each and every single day to improve myself. I enrolled myself in LINC Home Study to learn English online, I took marketing courses online, I self-taught myself French, so I can talk to my clients who don't doesn’t speak a lot of English like how I was once. I am still taking lessons to upgrade my nail art, because everything changes with time. Yes, I must learn and improve myself instead of letting it be and falling behind.

My main point after saying all of these is not to brag about what I have achieved. But what I wanted to tell you is to believe in yourself, be positive and learn every day to improve yourself to be a better you from yesterday. Don’t be shy or intimidated; because if so, then you can’t learn as much.

Only when you believe in yourself, you can make the impossible possible.
