In the tight work and sports schedule of my husband, my son and myself, at the beginning of August we got a chance to visit Prince Albert National Park, which is North of Saskatchewan, and over 3 hours driving from our town.
What a wonderful place! The landscape is way different from the Southern area of Saskatchewan. There is variety of vegetation, pine, spruce and other kinds of trees in the forest. This place has something for everyone: quiet hikes in the forest, adventures on the lake, boating, canoe, a golf course, good times on the beach, and a playground for kids.
We stopped at the nice, cozy lodge not far from the lake in Waskesiu Resort. The weather was wonderful for swimming, and my son could spend all day in the water. We also took a few hiking trails, each of them was wonderful in their own way. There were lots of signs of a bear on the trails, but we didn't meet him. Instead we saw elks, both female and male with big horns.
As well we climbed to the Height of Land Lookout Tower, where you can get over the trees and see the surrounding panorama. We savored the yummy ice cream from the local shop.
That was an amazing trip. Despite so short a time, we visited quite a few impressive places.
