I never thought that 2020 would start like this. Now, COVID-19 is affecting our lives and Canada has been in lockdown for two months already. During this period even the strongest men are going to be feeling frustrated, stressed, bored. It has sure changed the pace of my life. One example is that the work of my TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) clinic has completely stopped. Another is that schools are closed, and my son needs to stay home. Those things are out of my control, so I try not to let them get me down. The glass is half full, right? Even in this quarantine time, we have to look on the bright side. “How can I stay cheerful?”, I asked myself. First of all, the lockdown period has given us plenty of time to do things we want to do but didn’t have enough time to do before. Second, I can spend more time with my family, especially my wife. Of course, maybe a little extra sleep and more homemade healthy foods are a bonus too! Some people say how you spend your quarantine time predicts how you will spend the rest of your life, so I made a plan. I stick to doing three things every day to maintain healthy and regular living habits. I teach my wife and son to play volleyball in the backyard for 1 hour each day, and I do a good amount of reading. That way my family stays physically healthy and energetic, and we’re also learning something to improve every day. So far, it’s been ok. Even in lockdown we still need to be social. I’ve been finding ways to keep in touch with relatives and friends. I use social media like WeChat or the phone. We share feelings and support each other. For me, I’m also taking this as an opportunity to change to an easy lifestyle for a while, not forever, just as a way to reset.
And in fact, the best thing we have to be thankful for are so many amazing doctors, nurses and scientists who are working hard to control the situation and make life safe for us. I believe our life will go back to normal soon.
