This month that we are fasting its called the month of Ramadan.
the month of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. Also, fasting is one of the five fundamental principals of Islam.
we must fast from sun up to sundown. This month we have to give and we get the feeling of hunger for other people. we also kind of celebrate this month in which our prophet Mohammed peace be upon him got the initial revelation of the Quran the Muslim holy book.
there is also a special night in Ramadan called lailah Elkader and this night our prophet peace be upon him said fasting and praying in it is better than fasting for a thousand years.
Other than having five meals a day we have 2 one is called iftar and the other one is called suhur. Suhur is the one at sunrise and iftar is at sundown when we break the fast.
In this month we don't eat or drink and must avoid bad behaviors and bad thoughts and must remain patient all the time.
We can't eat or drink smokers cant smoke and no medication can be taken either. Whoever is sick or old in age or whoever is breastfeeding is allowed to not fast in the month of Ramadan but when they can they have to do it for the days that they missed. whoever is old and can't fast either after or before Ramadan must give zakat for the fasting that he didn't do. It's a month where people are supposed to practice self-resistance and self-reflection and fasting is also seen as a way of cleansing the soul and have empathy for those that are caught in hunger and poverty we do all of our work while fasting go to work school etc. this time is also a time where people decide to read the whole Quran and attend the salat after the iftar called tarawih and attend the mosque more often but unfortunately this year it's a bit different due to the COVID- 19.
To break the fast we usually have to eat dates because that is what our prophet ate to break his fast. after Ramadan to celebrate our fasting we have a celebration which is 3 days long called eid al Fitr in this celebration you have to give money or food for those that are in need.
