This recipe is important because it reminds me of the excellent moments I have had with my family. Oven-baked bacalhau (or cod in English) is a traditional recipe for Easter lunch and Christmas dinner, a Portuguese cuisine classic much appreciated by Brazilians. Cod is a versatile food that can be prepared in different ways. Additionally, cod is a good source of omega 3, a fatty acid that helps reduce cholesterol levels and reduce blood pressure (“Health Benefits of Cod”). Healthy ingredients such as peppers, eggs, and potatoes are rich in proteins and minerals and accompany this recipe

Cooking Tools:

  • Two large pots for the cod and the potatoes
  • 1 medium sized pots for boiling eggs
  • A baking tray
  • Aluminium foil
  • An oven
  • Knives to cut the fish and potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 1kg of unsalted cod fillet
  • 1 onion
  • 1 chilli pepper
  • 4 large boiled Yukon potatoes
  • 1 clove of chopped garlic
  • 1 cup of olives
  • Parsley and seasoning to taste
  • 4 eggs
  • Olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Preparations:

  1. Start to boil two pots of water for the cod and potatoes.
  2. Cut the potatoes into thin slices (about 2 cm).
  3. Boil the potatoes in a large pot for 15 minutes on medium heat but don’t let them get too soft
  4. Cooking Instructions:

  5. While the potatoes are boiling, add oil to a frying pan and turn on the heat.
  6. In a separate large pot, cook the cod for five minutes in boiling water.
  7. While the cod is cooking, boil the eggs in the medium pot for about 5 minutes.
  8. After the cod has cooked for five minutes, cut the fillet into slices.
  9. Peel off the egg shells and cut the boiled eggs in two.
  10. In a baking tray greased with olive oil, make a layer with the grilled potatoes. Then, make a layer of cod and potatoes again. Repeat the process until you run out of potatoes and cod.
  11. Decorate the top of the cod and potato layers with boiled eggs and olives. Drizzle olive oil over the top and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.

Your meal is ready to serve! Eat it and enjoy.
