My name is Hossai and I am from Afghanistan. I was born in a city called Kabul. I have three sisters and two brothers. I finished my school and higher education in Kabul.

I have studied Pashto literature for 3 years and completed a six-month management course. I worked in a kindergarten as a manager and an adviser for 6 years. Then I started working in many positions in Afghan Women Network, as a networking liaison officer, a researcher, and a resource center officer.

I was also a women activist, and our organization worked for women’s rights. But after the takeover of Taliban, our organization evacuated us from Afghanistan because nobody was safe there. In 2021 we left our country and flew to Albania. We spent almost one year there, then moved to Canada and started a new journey in the new country.

At first, we stayed in a hotel for a while and took an assessment for the English language. After that, I started my study in the hotel, and that was the first step of my accomplishment. Because of the language barrier, it was a challenge for me to communicate with people, find a house, get a job and I lacked Canadian experience. Also my husband experienced a lot of problems in searching for a home. But after one year, we found an apartment in Hamilton. We were happy that one problem was solved but other problems started: the apartment was very old and a lot of mice were in the room and kitchen, then we began searching for another home.

Long story short, finally we found an apartment in Mississauga after many days of searching. And I got a part time job, thanks to Allah. From now on, I will try my best to make a beautiful life in Canada.
