I had a dream to live foreign country when I was young, and it came true in 2017. How wonderful life experience is to immigrate to your imagined country. However, it was not easy to cut everything you were familiar in your home country including family relation, friends and career. It was a difficult decision to leave everything belonged to you and move to a new and unknow country. Luckily, we got family support and prepared completely to start our new journey at Canada in 2018 summer.

My husband, son and I took plane from Shanghai to Canada with 7 luggages containing all our essential living materials. It was an exciting journey especially for my son who didn’t take international flight earlier. After arriving on Canadian airport, processing the necessary document at the immigration we became official new Canadian. It was just the beginning of our journey in Canada.

How important is to get friends’ support when you are in unknow country. Under friend’s help, we set up local phone number, health card, driving license and temporary living place. Also, we bought a new car quickly because you can’t live in Canada without a car. The next vital thing is to register my son in elementary school. After comparing, we decided to enroll him into Catholic Elementary school which was a correct decision from current result. We set up all necessary things to start our new life in Canada. The last important thing is to look for job to support family financial which is not easy for new immigrants.

Canadian government has a lot of nonprofit organizations to offer new immigrants with different workshops like how to write resume, how to prepare for an interview and Bridging programs, which benefits all of us. There are still new challenges to my family in the future, but I believe we could overcome with our passion, positivity and hardworking attitude.
