I have watched many English language movies since I moved to Canada. Watching these films have helped me to improve my listening skills while being entertained.
The film, Me Before You, directed by Thea Shanock, had a profound effect on me. It is a tragic romantic drama based on the novel of the same name, which was written by Jojo Moyes, an English author in 2012.

The main characters are Louisa Clark played by Emilia Clarke and Will played by Sam Claflin. Louisa is an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. She is hired as a personal caregiver for Will who is wheelchair bound after a horrific accident. Prior to the accident, Will was a successful business man and active sportsman, but now he is moody, acerbic and pessimistic. Finding out that his ex-girlfriend is going to marry his best friend only makes things worse.

As Will’s caregiver, Louisa is determined to show him how good life can be. She takes him on fun outings around the country side and to visit his friends. Overtime they become romantically involved. Yet despite her efforts and his fondness for her, he feels that his life is not worth living.

I highly recommend this movie, especially for those who enjoy romantic films. The soundtrack is fantastic, featuring some of today’s best artists. The acting is superb, and so is the cinematography.
