In December of 2019 I had read an article about a strange contagious virus on social media which was reported as it started in China. The article stated as the virus is from the corona virus species that was transmitted to human from bat in China. The news about corona virus novel of 2019 abbreviated as COVID-19 got high coverage in the media. I never thought of such series type of virus. It didn’t take long time for the Health Canada to report the existence of the virus in Canada. Although it was said seriously about the fast transmission of the virus and the consequences that the virus could cause in our daily lives, I was not aware of all.
Out of all my expectations Covid-19, was declared as a pandemic. Following that Canadian officials ordered a shut down of most economic activities, all social interactions and travel restrictions to control the spread of the virus. I was locked at home and people who were on vacation were unable to come back. The number of infected cases start to go high day after day. Canadian supper markets got overwhelmed and shelves were empty. I went Costco shopping and it was with out water for sale, it was panic; https://youtu.be/CsF6ezLOMC4.
When this happened, I thought not only the virus but even starvation and shortage of supplies are going to affect us. Fortunately, my thought didn’t come true. I’m thankful for frontline workers and professionals who lead our society in a safe way.
The contribution of Canadians was tremendous, such as that activities were done through online platforms. They have stayed at home by practicing social distancing and hygiene. As a result, the number of cases had reduced in the early summer and we had a wonderful summer.
Despite the beautiful pink colour of spring, COVID-19 cases continue to rise up. Now alike the first phase we are familiar with social distancing, frequent hand washing, proper way of using masks and frequent sanitizing of hands including utensils. Even though the second phase is more critical because we are going to face covid-19 and the flue at the same time but every Canadian will play his/her part to minimize the loss of life.
It is extremely hard to lose beloved one. The challenges we had experienced in the first phase is enough. If we fail to act against the pandemic now at this critical choice of life and death, the consequences will de devastating. Let us do our part to save ourselves and our beloved’s life.
I wish full recoveries for those who are infected by the virus and deep sorrow for those who lost their lives. People are passing through the hard times of social, economical and moral situation provoked by COVID-19. We have to work together and play our part to save lives. Social distancing doesn’t mean social isolation nor discrimination.
