Vardevar is an ancient Armenian holiday. Vardevar means rose and water, which is associated with the goddess of Anahit. In ancient times, people thanked God for watering each other, which symbolized that the fields would always be watered and there would be good harvests. Water festival became a tradition and it is a tradition still celebrated today. On that day, young and old, girls and boys come out with buckets and pour water on each other. People are very happy that day, and are not afraid of getting wet from the watering. On that day a lot of tourists come to Armenia to celebrate the Water Festival. When pouring water on each other, people wish each other health and success. When the sun goes down, they gather with friends and relatives and have a party. That day is a very important day for Armenians all over the world. Many young people get married and celebrate their wedding on that day, because that day is the day of Christ’s transfiguration. While living in Canada, we are still able to celebrate the Water Festival with our small community. Our Canadian and foreign friends share with us our joy, for which we are very grateful. Canada has many celebrations to which I gladly participate. All the nations in Canada celebrate their national holidays, for which we are thankful. I am happy to live in Canada where I can still celebrate my traditions and customs of Armenia. I wish love and peace to all the nations of the world.
