History of Labour Day
A statutory holiday in Canada since 1894. It originated in the first workers’ rallies of the Victorian era. Historically, workers marked the day with various activities including parades, speeches, amateur competitions and picnics. The holiday promoted working-class solidarity and belonging during a time of rapid industrialization. Many Canadians now devote the Labour Day holiday to leisure activity and family time.
Career development play pivotal roles in newcomers’ Life
In Labour Day, I just study and discuss the challenges in Canada career ‘s development as immigrants. No one denied that immigrants make Canada’s workforce more dynamic and innovation. However, all challenges for job searching and matching between their skills with the job requirements makes many immigrants struggled to reach their careers potential. All their talent, degrees and experiences are being underutilized. On 2024, some policies were issued such as no Canadian’s experience’s requirement in job posting, to increasing the match between immigrant skills and job requirements. This should be accompanied by more agile and creative job requirements that better capture transferable skills and create more inclusive career ladder for immigrants.
Since facing with many challenge and barriers to find the job in Canada, the career’s development plays the vital part in immigrants’ life. Some people had their own business in their home countries to survive a year in Canada, but they still re-study and develop their career in here. They image a place where their children have life with health, happiness and purpose, so their career development will become their wellness and essential part.
Immigrants’ next generation should be created new opportunities for their career development since they have high qualified education. I believe that government will post new policy to motivate these qualified young workforces in Canada.
