Celebration

dates and quran on prayer rug

First of all, I would like to explain what Ramadan means. Ramadan is a very special month for Muslims because our holy book is the Quran which began to be recorded by a prophet during this time. Also, God created Ramadan as a fasting month. We are not eating or drinking from sunrise to sundown during this time, but the fasting meaning is not just about these things. We try to be a good person such as giving to charity, giving meals to poor people, not telling lies or gossiping, and not arguing with other people. We are learning patience and a better understanding of the situations of less fortunate people. We can also find health while fasting during the month of Ramadan.

Next, I would like to share with you our Ramadan celebration that we call ‘Bayram’. After 30 days, we are very excited about Bayram because we have completed Ramadan. On Eid day eve, we clean the whole house and decorate. Also, we prepare special food such as a dessert that is named ‘baklava’ for our visitors. We buy new clothes and gifts, candies and chocolates for children. All children are very excited about those. On Eid morning we wake up very early. Everyone takes a shower and gets on new or clean clothes. The most important thing on Eid is the Eid prayer in the mosque. This is because all Muslims go there, pray together, and congratulate each other. We can see everybody at the same time, and we feel strong because we realize there are many Muslim people who live here. When we finish the prayer, we visit our parents' house and have breakfast with the whole family. After breakfast, we call all relatives and friends. This celebration takes 3 days and we expect visitors.

Finally, we love Ramadan and Eid days because we try to be good Muslims and show good behavior to each other these days. Also, we get an opportunity to teach Islamic values and information to our children. Our relationship with God is better than before. We can’t wait for Ramadan every year without getting excited and we pray to reach Ramadan with health every year.
